How Joan of Arc & 'American Horror Stories' Fueled Bella Thorne's New Thriller
Add Bella Thorne to the list of former Disney stars who continue to shine in Hollywood with leading roles in unique projects. After her standout supporting turn in the monochrome mindmelt feature Divinity, Thorne's new thriller Saint Clare is now available to the masses. It made the festival rounds and shocked viewers as they witnessed Thorne's edgy turn as the eponymous college-aged killer who is blessed with discreetly terminating the wicked in today's corrupt world. If that means strangling a deadly creeper in his own car in broad daylight, well, this is God's plan, according to Clare. MovieWeb recently caught up with the actor and singer while Thorne was promoting Saint Clare, which is based on the celebrated Clare Bleecker novels. As it turns out, the subject matter is fueled by a surprising influence that dates back centuries.
"Once we figured out that we were kind of meshing a few of the books in that way and going a bit more towards the college aspect of [Clare's journey], that was a really interesting process," Thorne told MovieWeb. "Taking her from this young girl in the original book to now this young woman was a hard line, I think, to walk. And it was very interesting getting into that. Once we went a little bit deeper into Clare's mental space and what religion and whatnot means to her and this act of God per se — definitely very much Joan of Arc references... I think that that gave her so much depth for us to play with. And that was really fun, going down that rabbit hole."
